Why I dislike Illusionists.
This is not a blog, so there’s no reason for verbiage that veers most verbose vis-à-vis a violent vichyssoise. Violence perhaps. But I want to explain why I dislike illusionists, such as David Blane or Chris Angel.
Illusionists, use their mastery of misdirection and visual effects to bring an audience to almost believe that there is magic in this world.
There is in fact, no magic in this world. Magic in beauty yes. Magic in discovery, in scientific advancement, in spiritual self discovery, yes. But magic that makes rabbits come out of my ass? Magic that lifts glasses across a room or makes blondes disappear into mirrors? No, this magic is not real. And there’s no reason to fool the (easily fooled) masses into believing it.
Rant notwithstanding, The Illusionist was possibly the best period/fantasy movie I have seen this year.
